Stissing House Restaurant and Tavern

Front Hall at the Stissing House

About

From the moment you enter The Stissing House, its history calls out to you...

Taking you back to life in the late 1700s, when our founding farmers enjoyed a cool draught over hot discussions at the tavern and shared a feast with fellow town folk in front of the open hearth. For two centuries Stissing House has hosted visiting dignitaries and locals for private dinners, politicians for election debates and celebrated the marriages of the sons and daughters of beautiful Dutchess County. Most early American gathering spots have vanished, making The Stissing House, open since 1782, America's oldest and longest operated restaurant.

Today, managed by French-American restauranteurs, Michel & Patricia Jean, Stissing House is enjoying a renaissance and has once again found itself at the social center of life in Pine Plains and its surroundings.
